Sources for Assignment 1

These sources are documents that are related to human physiology. Human physiology is my major and it is something I am really interested in. I am going to use this sources in my interview and ask my professor questions over these sources and what he/she thinks of them and what they would do differently. I am excited to find out what they think because it is a field I am very interested in.

Analysis of Major Writing #1

The purpose of major writing #1 is to expand my knowledge of different types of writing and get more information of what it is like to be an advanced writer and how it is to have writing as a career. For this assignment I will be focusing my audience on other students my age who are also going into the medical field since I will be planning on analyzing academic papers that are involved with medicine. I think this assignment will help me realize where my strengths in writing are and also where my weaknesses are so I can work on them and become a better writer overall, both academically and non-academically.

Rhetorical Situations
Relaxation
Sitting on the hammock
Listening to the chattering of my friends
The bonfire’s burning
I don’t want this night to end
Cuddling with soft blankets
Sipping Arizona green tea
Eating Dove chocolate
That’s when I’m at peace
Soon the fire burns out
And the darkness of night settles in
The house has gone silent
My snug bed upstairs waits
I climb into the sheets
Turn off my light
With one last glance at my phone
I fall asleep blissfully into the night

This is a poem I wrote my senior year of high school called “Relaxation”. It is an imagery poem I wrote about summer at the beginning of the school year because I was sad about school starting since it was my year of “lasts” and I did not want to go through the year knowing it would be my last time doing everything I loved like cross country, track, and other various clubs. But now that I am in college I am glad that those years are past me. The audience I had in mind when I was writing this poem was other students my age going through the same sad feeling about summer ending and starting another year of high school. I chose this audience because I knew many of them would feel the same way as I did. The reason I picked an imagery poem is because I think it is what other people can relate to best, and it is the most fun to write in my opinion. When I wrote this poem I wrote it in a way that lots of people would be able to relate, but I also wanted to personalize it. This can be seen in lines six and seven where it says “Sipping Arizona green tea, Eating Dove chocolate”. These are a couple of my favorite foods and they remind me instantly of summer which is why I wanted to include them in this poem about summer. I think a way I could have improved this piece is by using different rhyme schemes rather than using just one. I think it would have added a lot more diversity to the poem and made it more interesting. I am hoping to learn a lot more about expanding my knowledge of writing this semester.
